Sindu trained with her mentors, Stanford instructors Kay Kostopoulos and Marty Pistone, from April 2009 until she began her theatrical journey in December 2010 with Naatak.

Over the past 14 years, she has worn multiple hats as an actor, director, producer, writer, singer and designer in over 30 theatrical productions. She has performed with companies all over the Bay Area including Central Works, Playwrights Foundation, Altarena Playhouse, South Valley Civic Theatre, Spreckels Theatre, Dragon Theatre, and Stanford Graduate Winter Repertory, among others.

In 2014, she co-founded Bay Area Drama Company, a South Asian theatre company focused on highlighting social justice themes, and served as Co-Artistic Director from 2015 to 2020, overseeing 18 productions during her tenure.

As a director, Sindu is interested in themes at the intersection of race/gender/socioeconomic inequality, urbanization/gentrification, gender dynamics/patriarchy, domestic violence, corporate greed, and political/religious idealism and extremism. She made her directing debut with ‘Yoni ki Baat’ (the South Asian version of ‘The Vagina Monologues’) at Stanford in March 2014. Additional full-length directing credits include Ayad Akhtar’s ‘The Invisible Hand’, Girish Karnad’s ‘Boiled Beans on Toast’ & ‘The Wedding Album’, Vijay Tendulkar’s ‘Kanyadaan’, Rahul Varma’s ‘Counter Offence’, and Mahesh Dattani’s ‘Dance Like a Man’.

Writing credits include 4 short plays (5150, Bridge, Suprabhatham, and Faceless, Invisible) for 'Afsaaney — Our Stories’, a devised theatre piece Sindu conceptualized to highlight the South Asian diaspora experience in the United States. She was directing the show in March 2020 when Covid shut it down a week before opening night. It was later staged in December 2021 by Bay Area Drama Company.

During the pandemic, Sindu served on the play selection committee for Dragon Eggs, Dragon Theatre’s virtual incubator for new works, acted in the short play ‘Box of Teeth’, and directed 3 short plays - ‘Signal One Three Thirteen’ by Bora “Max” Koknar, ‘Corrector’ by Maximillian Gill, and ‘Crazy Pants’ by Nayna Agrawal - on Zoom.

Returning to live theatre in August 2021 with the World Premiere of David Templeton’s sci-fi masterpiece ‘Galatea’ felt like a homecoming to her. In March 2022, Sindu was nominated by the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle for 'Principal Performance - Drama' for her role as Dr. Mailer. Galatea scored 9 SFBATCC nominations and won 7 awards, including ‘Entire Production — Bay Area.’ In September 2024, Sindu won ‘Best Supporting Actress’ at South Valley Civic Theatre’s Members Choice Awards for her role in ‘Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.’

Sindu was honored to serve on Theatre Bay Area’s ‘Spring 2024 Ca$h Performs & Ca$h Creates’ Grant Panel supporting the work of fellow Bay Area theatre artists. She was most recently seen on stage in the World Premiere of Patricia Milton’s ‘Accused!’ at Central Works, and in a staged reading of Nikhil Kashyap’s ‘The Maid’s Metaverse’ at Berkeley Rep.

She holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs with an International Finance & Business concentration from Columbia University. Prior to her journey in theatre, Sindu worked at Fortune 500 companies in marketing, advertising and corporate strategy in New York and Silicon Valley.
